España, Israel y Palestina: pasado y presente de sus relaciones diplomáticas

Abstract

The Spanish diplomatic action in The Middle East conflict has become a long succession of meetings and divergences since the political positions adopted by Franco’s_x000D_ regime up to today. This article reviews the most important moments of the relations_x000D_ with The Middle East between 1975 and 2004. The text presents the unconditional support that Franco gave to the Palestinians; how Spain recognized the State of Israel in_x000D_ 1986 and the growing Spanish protagonism thru the 1990’s and throughout this century’s_x000D_ first decade, with international events that directly relates Spain to the Israeli-Palestinian_x000D_ process: the 1991 Madrid Peace Conference; the Euro-Mediterranean Conference of_x000D_ Barcelona in 1995; the meeting of the Quartet of Madrid, in 2002, where from the Road_x000D_ Map came out and the participation in the Iraq war in 2003, among others.

La acción diplomática española en el conflicto de Oriente Próximo se ha convertido en una larga sucesión de encuentros y desencuentros desde las posiciones políticas adoptadas por el franquismo hasta la actualidad. Este artículo, repasa los momentos más importantes de las relaciones con Oriente Próximo entre 1975 y 2004. El recorrido presenta el apoyo incondicional de Franco a los palestinos; cómo se llegó al reconocimiento oficial del Estado de Israel en 1986 y el creciente protagonismo español de los años noventa y primera década de este siglo, con acontecimientos internacionales que lo relacionaron directamente con el proceso palestino-israelí: la Conferencia de paz de Madrid, en 1991; la Conferencia Euromediterránea de Barcelona, en 1995; la reunión del Cuarteto de Madrid, en 2002, de donde saldría la Hoja de Ruta y la participación en la guerra de Irak en 2003, entre otros.
