The research article aims to understand, through the voice of rural families in some hamlets in the municipalities of Cómbita and Sotaquirá (Boyacá, Colombia), the challenges, expectations, and needs they experience in their daily lives regarding the formal and informal education of their children. The methodology is qualitative with a phenomenological perspective; semi-structured interviews are applied to 8 biparental peasant families, which were coded and interpreted according to critical discourse analysis. The results show that peasant families recognize the importance of providing moral and economic support to their children’s education, viewing it as a means to build a better future and improve their quality of life. In conclusion, it was found that families desire to strengthen collaboration between them and the teachers, improve the educational quality of their children’s schools, increase the offerings in formal and informal, technical and technological education, and enhance the income with which they can ensure a higher quality of life and goods and services for their children. © 2024 Research Center of Universidad Pedagogica Nacional.
