dc.description.abstract | La alfabetización para la salud (ApS), es uno de los procesos resultantes de educación para la salud y hace referencia a la motivación, conocimientos y competencias que tienen las personas para entender, valorar y aplicar información con el propósito de tomar decisiones con relación al autocuidado, la prevención de la enfermedad y la promoción de la salud, a fin de mantener o aumentar la calidad de vida. En ese sentido, a medida que las personas incrementan el control y la gestión sobre si mismos se obtienen mejores cambios positivos que impactan en la salud de los individuos. Por el contrario, cuando se tienen bajos niveles de ApS, hay falta de comprensión de conceptos, pobre gestión de la enfermedad, poca adherencia al tratamiento, menor uso de medidas preventivas, poco autocuidado, dificultad para entender y aplicar consejos de salud y mayores gastos en los servicios de salud. De ahí que la ApS sea considerada como un determinante de la salud. | es_CO |
