Perceptions and beliefs of the english language teaching (ELT) in the rural education institutions in Colombia

Abstract

Este artículo presenta los resultados de una investigación cuyo objetivo fue determinar las percepciones y creencias de la enseñanza del idioma inglés en las instituciones educativas rurales de Colombia, una investigación de campo fue desarrollada en la Amazonía, 58 profesores de diferentes instituciones educativas rurales de Colombia fueron encuestados a través de un cuestionario y una entrevista exploratoria. Este estudio demostró la necesidad de construir en unidad y dialogo una pedagogía para la enseñanza basada en los principios de vida de todas las comunidades, en oposición al actual sistema educativo y sus políticas de enseñanza principalmente enfocados en el desarrollo económico del país y como esta ruta educativa ha sido implementada con relación al entrenamiento de profesores incluyendo elementos del contexto de la comunidad de los aprendices, cultura y diversidad del lenguaje.

This article presents the results of a study that aimed to identify the perceptions and beliefs of the English language teaching in rural educational institutions in Colombia, a field research was developed in the Amazon area, 58 teachers from different rural educational institutions in Colombia were enquired through a questionnaire and an exploratory interview. This study demonstrates the need to build in unity and dialogue a teaching pedagogy grounded in the principles of the communities, in opposition to the current educational system and its teaching policies mainly focused on the economic development of the country and how this educational route has been implemented concerning the teacher´s training involving elements of the learners´ context and their communities, culture, and language diversity.
