Within the framework of the Auto evaluation (2018- 2019) stated analysis that was done for the
Master in Direction and Management of Educational Institutions (MDGIE), a qualitative study and case
study design was carried out. The objectives were to identify trends in educational institutions regarding
director´s training in Master´s programs offered in Latin America and other similar programs in Colombia.
It also sought to recognize the needs of the environment concerning training of competencies and
managerial practices acquired throughout the experience of MDGIE graduates and identify the strengths
and opportunities for improvement of academic curriculums, as well as the development of programs
curriculums derived from the experience of graduates.
This is the fourth study carried out by students and teachers of the program as a fundamental
contribution that adds to the self-evaluation and continuous improvement processes of the MDGIE (Panesso
and Puerto, 2017; Moreno, Galicia and Riscanevo, 2017; Martínez, 2018). For reference, 4 similar master's
programs in Latin America and 5 in Colombia were reviewed, as well as the Tuning Latin America Report
(Deusto University and Groningen of University, 2007). Also, 10 graduates from different cohorts between
2017 and 2020 participated, to whom an in-depth interview protocol was applied. The results of the master´s
program references reveal that on an international level, the managerial leadership concept and socio emotional development of directors are aspects of great importance. Likewise, a marked transition from the
concept of managerial competence to managerial practice is detected, which highlights the need to
strengthen the practical relevance of the expected learning outcomes in the different academic spaces of the
MDGIE. Moreover, the perspective of the graduates allows us to recognize the positive impact that the
program had on their work experience as directors of kindergartens, schools, and universities.
