dc.description.abstractIberoamérica es una región que permanece relativamente poco explorada en lo que se refiere a los desarrollos y a la evolución del periodismo de datos, como afirman Borges Rey, Heravi y Uskal (2018). Para estos investigadores, el grueso de la literatura disponible se centra en estudios de caso nacionales e institucionales en los Estados Unidos., Noruega, Bélgica, Canadá y el Reino Unido. Incluso los estudios sobre cómo surge el concepto de periodismo de datos se han basado en la evidencia extraída del mundo anglosajón. Esto se entiende si, como explica Ávila (2015), vemos que en los años 70’s y 80’s, el periodismo de precisión florecía en Estados Unidos en medios como The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Dallas Morning News, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, o la organización Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE). En contraste, los países latinoamericanos se encontraban embebidos en la lucha por la libertad de expresión, pues muchos estaban gobernados por dictaduras que impedían cualquier ejercicio libre de la prensa (Ávila; 2015) además de una serie de crisis económicas que impedía la implementación de la tecnología computacional. Para los periodistas latinoamericanos, un periodismo que pensara en el acceso a la información o al procesamiento de datos con computadoras era lejano a los urgentes retos que enfrentaban.es_CO
