Integration of lean and green management: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract

Lean and green are major, compatible management initiatives because of their joint focus on waste reduction, efficient use of resources and emphasis on satisfying customer needs at the lowest possible cost (economic and environmental). From this angle, this paper presents a bibliometric analysis of the integration of lean and green management. To that end, this paper analyses 685 research papers retrieved from the Scopus database using the following parameters: year of publication, discipline, source, institution, country and citations. This final dataset was composed of articles from scientific journals published between 1992-2018. Furthermore, VOSviewer software was used to map the bibliographic material using the coupling of countries and the co-occurrence of keywords. The analysis indicates that research on lean and green topics has increased in recent years, and that moreover the topic is structured into three clusters: 1) manufacturing; 2) energy, emissions and costs; 3) Lean Six Sigma. These highlights can facilitate the development of future research on this topic.

Lean y green son iniciativas de gestión importantes y compatibles debido a su enfoque conjunto en la reducción de residuos, el uso eficiente de los recursos y el énfasis en satisfacer las necesidades del cliente al menor costo posible (económico y ambiental). Desde este ángulo, este artículo presenta un análisis bibliométrico de la integración de la gestión lean y green. Con ese fin, este artículo analiza 685 trabajos de investigación recuperados de la base de datos Scopus utilizando los siguientes parámetros: año de publicación, disciplina, fuente, institución, país y citas. Este conjunto de datos final estaba compuesto por artículos de revistas científicas publicadas entre 1992 y 2018. Además, se utilizó el software VOSviewer para mapear el material bibliográfico utilizando el acoplamiento de países y la co-ocurrencia de palabras clave. El análisis indica que la investigación sobre temas lean y green ha aumentado en los últimos años y que, además, el tema se estructura en tres grupos: 1) fabricación; 2) energía, emisiones y costos; 3) Lean Six Sigma. Estos aspectos destacados pueden facilitar el desarrollo de futuras investigaciones sobre este tema.
