Toolkit for simultaneously improving production and environmental efficiencies

Abstract

Environmental efficiency should not be treated independently of production efficiency. Several studies have demonstrated that lean management can be a major part of the answer to improving the environmental performance of companies. In this context, this work integrates existing methodologies and approaches from lean thinking, Industry 4.0 and mathematical optimization and then presents a toolkit for integrating, measuring, controlling and improving production and environmental performance in companies. The proposed approach is the result of previous investigations and is being validated in companies in the agri-food sector.

La eficiencia ambiental no debe tratarse independientemente de la eficiencia productiva. Varios estudios han demostrado que la gestión ajustada puede ser una parte importante de la respuesta para mejorar el desempeño ambiental de las empresas. En este contexto, este trabajo integra metodologías y enfoques existentes del pensamiento lean, la Industria 4.0 y la optimización matemática y luego presenta un conjunto de herramientas para integrar, medir, controlar y mejorar la producción y el desempeño ambiental en las empresas. El enfoque propuesto es fruto de investigaciones previas y está siendo validado en empresas del sector agroalimentario.
