The purpose of the research was to determine whether there are changes in the relationship between the physical punishment of the parents towards their children and the aggressive behavior of the children in the presence of parental stress. 74 subjects participated (37 children between 8 and 12 years of age and their father or mother). Three questionnaires were applied: the parental stress index in short form (PSI / SF), the Scale of Conflict Tactics between parents and children dimension: physical assault (Parent-Child conflict Tactics Scale) and the Reactive and Proactive Aggression Questionnaire for children. The results show a high prevalence of the use of physical punishment in the sample (94.6%), the presence of mild physical punishment according to its severity in 32.5%, severe physical punishment in 40.5% and very severe physical punishment at 21.6%. An association is found between physical punishment and aggressive behavior, mild and severe physical punishment with proactive and reactive aggressive behavior, very severe physical punishment with reactive aggressive behavior. Similarly, an association was found between children's aggressive behavior and parental stress, and between reactive and proactive aggression with the dimensions of parental stress, dysfunctional parent-child interaction and difficult child. The results show that no significant changes in the relationship between physical punishment and aggressive behavior in presence of parental stress, that is, that parental stress is not a moderating variable between the physical punishment of parents and the aggressive behavior of children. Therefore, it is concluded that parents use physical punishment with a high prevalence and severity regardless of whether they are stressed with parenting or not. Thoughts on the research are commented.eng
