La herejía de los cátaros sacudió, durante los siglos XII y XIII, el sur de lo que hoy es Francia, de lo que se ha llamado Occitania-Languedoc. Esta herejía llegó a influir también en la parte norte de la península italiana, en el norte de Francia y en Alemania
