Abstract

Preoperative fasting is crucial to prevent aspiration during general anesthesia. However, prolonged fasting times can negatively affect patient well being. There is limited research on extended fasting in emergency surgeries at tertiary care institutions in Latin America

El ayuno preoperatorio es esencial para evitar la broncoaspiración durante la anestesia general. Sin embargo, los tiempos prolongados de ayuno pueden afectar negativamente el bienestar del paciente. Existen pocas investigaciones sobre el ayuno prolongado en cirugías de urgencia en instituciones de tercer nivel en América Latina.
