The Vote of the College Youth in Bogotá: The Force of the Example to Promote a Transformation with the Results of the Plebiscite on October 2, 2016 in Colombia

Abstract

The force of the example - a fact that enable to combine what it is and what is should be in order to get something like it is what it should be (Ferrara, 2008) - is the idea that encapsulates the main findings from a research by the Media Observatory of the Communication Department of the Universidad de La Sabana on the vote by the college youth in Bogotá, during the plebiscite carried out on October 2, 2016. Opposite to the expectations and in contrast with adult people that decided to not participate, the young students voted and backed the peace agreement signed by the Government and the FARC guerrillas. When the "YES" was defeated in the voting, the youth did a mobilization to set an example with their action and claim a transformation on the adverse results to have a new opportunity for the peace. © 2022 Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
