Bien y naturaleza: algunas coincidencias entre Robert Spaemann y Charles Taylor

Abstract

El artículo intenta mostrar algunas semejanzas de fondo entre el concepto de bien y de naturaleza (núcleo de la identidad), presentes en Spaemann y Taylor. La distinción de los bienes o acciones que hacen justicia a la naturaleza del hombre (entendida en sentido teleológico), que preservan su identidad, se realiza cultivando sentimientos que respeten el significado del yo y del resto de la realidad. Nosotros descubrimos este significado gracias a la racionalidad, que traduce el sentimiento en lenguaje. Es en el lenguaje donde se autodefine el yo y distinguimos aquellos bienes que son irrenunciables para llevar una vida plenamente humana.

This paper intends to show some fundamental similarities between the concepts of good and nature (nucleus of identity), present in Spaemann and Taylor. The recognition of goods and actions that do justice to human nature (understood in a teleological sense) and preserve its identity, is made by developing or cultivating feelings that respect the meaning of the self and of the rest of reality. We discover this meaning because of our rationality, which translates feelings into words. It is within language that the self is self-de- fined, and it is also within language that we recognize those goods which are indispensable to lead a fully human life.
