Comités de ética y de bioética: una diferencia operativa

Abstract

The need to train serious researchers to make them well prepared and willing to work with responsibility and ability enough as to keep a country and a society torn at a crossroads stay afloat and get back on their feet, makes bioethics and ethics committees a tool of first order. The good use of these instruments leads to both the proper orientation and the encouragement required by good researchers to undertake their work in depth. The origins of contrasting types of committees help defining the shape of their differences. To the extent that their divergences are known and acknowledged, a better service may be rendered which, ultimately, will benefit with a better treatment those who actually give a sense to our working in the area of health, i.e. the sick people. More attention is paid to research-ethics committees, since they are major authorities as determinant factors for development of researchers and research groups -as incipient as they still are in our environment - to take place on sound and objective foundations. This will lead not only to success in investigative work but to the self-perfecting of researchers and professionals as well; and, above all, to respecting and protecting the human being.

La necesidad de preparar investigadores que, con seriedad y competencia, trabajen para sacar a flote un país y una sociedad, que se debaten en una encrucijada que parecería no tener término, hace de los comités de bioética y de ética unas herramientas de primer orden. El buen empleo de estos instrumentos produce la acertada orientación y el necesario estímulo que los buenos investigadores necesitan para acometer con profundidad su trabajo. Los orígenes de los distintos tipos de comités ayudan a ir perfilando sus diferencias. En la medida que ellas sean conocidas y asumidas, se podrá prestar un mejor servicio, que -en último término-redundará en un mejor manejo de quien da sentido al trabajo en el área de la salud: la persona enferma. Mayor atención se presta sobre los comités de ética en investigación, pues son instancias determinantes para que el desarrollo de investigadores y grupos de investigación -hasta ahora tan incipientes en nuestro medio- se haga sobre bases firmes y objetivas, que llevarán no solo al éxito del trabajo investigativo, sino también a que profesionales e investigadores se perfeccionen ellos mismos y, sobre todo, a que se respete y proteja a la persona humana.
