%X El presente artículo da un vistazo a la importancia de la introducción de un enfoque de Contenido de Aprendizaje Integrado de Lengua (AICLE) en el sistema general de educación de Colombia como resultado de la creciente necesidad de que los estudiantes desarrollen competencias en inglés. Además da una mirada a la situación actual de la enseñanza de idiomas, políticas y prácticas, necesidades actuales, al papel de la cultura y a los posibles benefi cios del uso de un enfoque AICLE en la educación y a los posibles desafíos. The current article takes a look at the importance of in introducing a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach into the Colombian main stream education as a result of the growing need for students to develop competencies in English. Furthermore, it takes a look at the current state of language education, policies & practices, current needs, the role of culture and possible benefi ts for using a CLIL approach to education and possible challenges.
