Objective: To know the barriers in the process of building family cultural care for the child in the hospital. Methodology: This is a qualitative study with a cross-cultural theoretical reference of Madeleine Leininger, called Theory of Diversity and Cultural Universality of Care, and with a methodological reference of the ethno-inference. It was developed in 2017 at the pediatric unit of a university hospital in the south of Brazil, through non-participant observation, participant observation and interview with 15 family caregivers of hospitalized children. The data was coded, classified and scrutinized to identify the saturation of ideas and similar or different patterns; also, it was re-coded and the theoretical formulations and recommendations were performed. Ethical aspects were followed, according to the Resolution of the National Research Ethics Council 466/2012. Results: The data showed as a barrier the need for hospitalization as a factor of family vulnerability, control of the unit’s health team members, hospital norms and routines, and the need to transgress as a manifestation of family care. Conclusion: Cultural care is a process that aggregates knowledge and can be considered a new paradigm for the accomplis-hment of nursing care by providing the mutual growth and construction of new knowledge, an affective, reflexive, human and empathic relationship between the nurse, the child and the family.

Moral Distress, Sign of Ethical Issues in the Practice of Oncology Nursing: Literature Review
Vargas Celis, Ivonne; Concha Méndez, Camila Andrea
Objective: To describe the factors that influence the emergence of moral distress in oncology nurses. Methodology: integrative review of the literature whose search will be performed in Web of Science databases, CINAHL (EBSCO), Scielo, Proquest, Pubmed and PsycInfo using the keywords moral distress and oncology nursing and their similes in Spanish, without restriction for years of publication until 2017. Results: The results of this review were grouped into three groups of factors each with subgroups: 1) Organizational factors: ethical climate, evasive culture and resources for ethics delivered by the organization. 2) Particular clinical situations: pain management, information delivery, futile treatment, and assistance to the patient and their family in the process of death, 3) Interpersonal relation-ships: poor communication, power relations, trust in the team’s competence. Conclusion: the three factors described are triggers of moral distress in oncology nurses. When there are ethical problems and the nurses do not participate in the deliberation process, these problems can be hidden and be normalized, which can diminish the moral sensitivity of the professionals, as well as the possibility of acting as moral agents.

Objective: To evaluate symptoms among patients with abdominal cancer and associated factors. Materials and methods: A cros-s-sectional study with 100 patients. The prevalence of symptoms was evaluated through the Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale (MSAS) and its association with demographic and clinical variables using chi-square and ANOVA tests. Results: The most prevalent symptoms were weight loss (64.0 %), pain (56.0 %), dry mouth (50.0 %), “I do not look more myself” (48.0 %) and lack of energy (45.0 %). There was a significant difference between sex and high-frequency (PHYS-H) (p = 0.001) and low-frequency (PHYS-L) physical symp-toms (p = 0.004), and for general scale (TMSAS) (p = 0.002); (p = 0.001), general range (p = 0.027) and borderline significance for the global scale (GDI) (p = 0.051); high-frequency physical symptoms (p = 0.022), low-frequency physical symptoms (p = 0.034) and the overall scale (p = 0.034). There was one major complaint regarding the severity of high-frequency physical symptoms in patients with liver cancer (p = 0.018). Conclusion: Symptoms of physical and psychological aspects in cancer patients were associated with gender, race, marital status and tumor location. There is a need for tools to assess symptoms and enable health professionals to intervene more effectively.

Chacón Valera, Carla; Bartolomé Regué, María; Font Ritort, Sergi; Cabrera Torres, Esther
Objective: To know the socio-demographic characteristics of the elderly adults (60-70 years), of the population of Mataró (Barcelona), and their relationship with the knowledge degree and training needs perceived to face a healthy aging. Materials and methods: Descriptive observational cross-sectional study in which a sample of 306 people was analysed. Socio-demographic data and variables related to leisure activities, health status, training, formative needs and predisposition to take a course on aging were evaluated. Results: About a 60 % of the respondents showed interest in receiving training about; healthy habits (59,1 %), proper diet (62,0 %), work out (59,6 %), future limitations (62,6 %), why we grow old (61,0 %), frequent illnesses in the elderly (62,5 %), use of medication (66,1 %), use of the health system (61,9 %), social resources (70,0 %), new technologies (64,0 %), care of sick people (60,5 %), and security aspects (61,6 %). Conclusions: There is a need to receive training among the elderly adult population in order to cope with aging in a healthier way. The main needs perceived by the elderly are: Healthy habits, possible future limitations due to the aging process, use of medication, functioning of the health system and access to social resources, new technologies and, finally, caring for sick relatives.
