abstract = {Background and aims: The COVID-19 pandemic has unleashed a global crisis, 
the lack of prior preparation in the health sector became evident with the high 
rates of morbidity and mortality, giving rise to a series of important ethical 
dilemmas. In response to these difficulties, it was concluded the need to introduce 
the culture of palliative care in the care processes of critical patients, through a 
"death with dignity" approach, whose main treatment axis corresponds to 
providing ventilatory support. Thus, the most controversial dilemma corresponds 
to the removal of this support, also called "palliative extubation" based on the 
principle of proportionality. The objectives of this Scoping Review correspond to 
analyzing the bioethical implications that revolve around the decision to perform 
palliative extubation in patients with COVID-19 infection, based on the concepts 
of dignified death and medical futility.
Methods: A Scoping Review was carried out through a search in 4 databases, 
Pubmed, Biblioteca Virtual de la Salud, Web of Science and Google Scholar,
using Mesh terms and free terms such as "COVID-19", "SARS-CoV-2 ”, “palliative 
extubation”, “terminal extubation”, “bioethics”, “bioethical dilemmas"; that met the 
inclusion and exclusion criteria.},
abstract = {Introducción y objetivos: La pandemia por COVID-19 ha desatado una crisis global, la falta de preparación previa en el sector sanitario se hizo evidente con las altas tasas de morbilidad y mortalidad, dando origen a una serie de dilemas éticos importantes. Como respuesta a estas dificultades, se concluyó la necesidad de introducir la cultura de los cuidados paliativos en los procesos de atención de pacientes críticos, a través de un enfoque de “muerte digna”, cuyo eje de tratamiento principal corresponde a proporcionar un soporte ventilatorio. Así, el dilema más conflictivo corresponde al retiro de este soporte, también llamado “extubación paliativa” basado en el principio de proporcionalidad. Los objetivos de esta revisión de alcance, corresponden a analizar las implicaciones bioéticas que giran en torno a la decisión de efectuar extubación paliativa en pacientes con infección por COVID-19, con base a los conceptos de muerte digna y futilidad médica. Metodología: Se realizó un Scoping Review a través de la búsqueda en 4 bases de datos, Pubmed, Biblioteca Virtual de la Salud, Web of Science y Google Scholar, empleando términos Mesh y términos libres como “COVID-19”, “SARSCoV-2”, “palliative extubation”, “terminal extubation”, “bioethics”, “bioethical dilemmas"; que cumplieran los criterios de inclusión y exclusión.},
