abstract = {Introduction: Medical education, over time, has become transformed regarding 
the advances that have occurred in society, science and technology. Also, in 
recent years, efforts have been made to digitize part of the content generated in 
this area. However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought about a rapid and challenging 
change.
Objective: To identify the challenges and new approaches regarding the functions 
of professors of basic medical sciences in pandemic times and their projection 
towards a hybrid modality.
Development: The professors of basic medical sciences are the students’ initial 
contact with the university reality. They have the function not only of teaching 
the principles of scientific foundation for clinical practice, but also of motivating 
students towards being upright professionals. The pandemic has posed multiple 
challenges, among which the need to promote teacher training stands out, aimed 
at dealing with unexpected situations. This would allow teaching how to face 
situations assertively, innovate and give continuity to the transformations carried 
out.
Conclusions: Upon accepting the challenge of modifying the focus of educational 
practices in basic medical sciences during a pandemic situation, professors should 
define guidelines towards a hybrid teaching modality, as well as take advantage 
of these spaces to promote research in the classroom, as well as document the 
changes made and their impact.},
abstract = {Introducción: La educación médica a través del tiempo se ha transformado en 
relación con los avances ocurridos en la sociedad, la ciencia y la tecnología. En 
los últimos años también se han realizado esfuerzos por digitalizar parte de los 
contenidos generados en este ámbito. Sin embargo, la pandemia de la COVID-19 
provocó un cambio rápido y desafiante.
Objetivo: Identificar los retos y nuevos enfoques de las funciones de los docentes 
de Ciencias Básicas de Medicina en tiempos de pandemia y su proyección hacia 
una modalidad híbrida.
Desarrollo: Los profesores de Ciencias Básicas de Medicina son el contacto inicial 
del estudiante con su realidad universitaria, en quienes recae la función no solo 
de enseñar los principios de fundamentación científica para la práctica clínica, 
sino también de motivar a los alumnos para ser profesionales íntegros. La 
pandemia ha planteado múltiples desafíos, entre los cuales sobresale la necesidad 
de promover la formación docente dirigida a afrontar situaciones inesperadas. 
Esto permitiría enseñar a afrontar de manera asertiva las situaciones, innovar y 
dar continuidad a las transformaciones realizadas.
Conclusiones: Al aceptar el reto de modificar el enfoque de las prácticas 
educativas en Ciencias Básicas en Medicina en situación de pandemia, los 
docentes deberán definir directrices hacia una modalidad de enseñanza híbrida, así como aprovechar estos espacios para promover la investigación en el aula y 
documentar los cambios realizados y su impacto.},
